Wouldn’t you just love to have pouty full lush lips, but you’re not sure about the thought of having lip injections? There’s no need to be nervous, you can pump up the volume of your lips with fillers, and with new advances in lip injections available now, it isn’t as painful as you might think.
First, let’s address what lip injections with dermal fillers will do for you. Which cosmetic filler will work best for your lips is a decision between you and your cosmetic doctor. Your consultation with your cosmetic doctor will also include a discussion on the degree of plumpness you need or desire. Ideally, your lower lip should be 1½ times fuller than your upper lip.
Keep in mind that the use of dermal fillers is not a one-size-fits-all proposition, and your cosmetic doctor may suggest one brand over another, or even suggest using two or more complementary fillers in tandem for the best outcome for you.
Now, let’s address the issue of pain. Before he or she begins, your cosmetic doctor will sometimes inject you with a local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort. This is usually a dental block, administered into your gums. If you’re not too keen on injections in the first place, the drawback of this is it’s an extra injection. From a pain perspective though, your lips should be perfectly numbed up for your lip filler injections.
One of the options available that should cut out the need for a dental block is the addition of lidocaine, a numbing substance, to the filler. Restylane is now available in a form containing 3% lidocaine. The Restylane with lidocaine product has specifically been developed for improved patient comfort. That, in plain speak, means less pain. If the option of Restylane with lidocaine appeals to you, make sure your cosmetic doctor stocks this product as not all cosmetic doctors do.
Regardless of which filler you and your cosmetic doctor ultimately choose, you may experience some slight pain, tingling, itching or swelling at the injection site when the lidocaine wears off, side effects which are quite temporary
